Net Zero Qualified Builder
A Net Zero home produces as much clean energy as it uses over a year.
It gets there in two steps. First the home is built to need far less energy, with extra insulation, high-performance windows and airtight construction. Then on-site renewable energy, usually solar panels, supplies what the home still uses.
Solplan is a Net Zero Qualified Builder under the Canadian Home Builders’ Association Net Zero Home Labelling Program, and we have two Net Zero homes under construction in Vancouver now.

How it works
More insulation in the walls, roof and foundation keeps heat in during winter and out during summer.
High-performance windows cut heat loss and drafts while keeping rooms bright.
The building envelope is sealed and tested, so warm air does not leak away.
Heating, cooling, hot water, lighting and appliances are chosen to use as little energy as possible.
On-site generation, usually solar panels, produces the energy the home still needs.
What it means for you
With more insulation, better windows and fewer drafts, temperatures stay even from room to room and season to season.
Net Zero homes are built for excellent indoor air quality, with ventilation that brings in fresh air throughout the home.
Because the home generates about as much energy as it uses over the year, energy bills can be much lower. Actual costs depend on utility rates and how the home is lived in.
Good to know
Under the CHBA program, each home is modelled, tested and inspected by a qualified energy advisor and verified by a third party before it earns its label.
A Net Zero Ready home is built to the same efficiency standard, designed so that solar panels can be added later.
Buyers with a CMHC-insured mortgage on a new home labelled Net Zero or Net Zero Ready may qualify for CMHC Eco Plus, a 25% partial refund of the mortgage insurance premium. Check current terms with CMHC or your lender.
